Maine Chickadee Plate Replacement Starting May 1, 2025
Starting May 1, 2025, all chickadee license plates will no longer be issued. Anyone who currently has plates with the chickadee design (including vanity plates) will be required to obtain new plates when they renew their registration or obtain a new registration on or after May 1, 2025.
This means municipalities, including Etna will be issuing a new plate when registrants with a chickadee plate renew their registrations. For new registrations and renewals in the Passenger Class (PC) class code, registrants can choose between the following two designs:
- a Pine Tree Plate for no additional costs or;
- a No Tree Plate for no additional costs or;
- one of the current specialty plates (normal fees apply)
If you want to keep your same plate number or personalization, you may reserve the number for a one-time fee of $25. To reserve your number, please visit https://apps1.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/bmv/rapid-renewal/reservation/start; or you may get a paper form at the town office.
For more information regarding the new plate issuance, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page under the Town Services tab, Motor Vehicle Registrations section.
